Steward follows nonbinary Ely as they return to their family farm and begin to encounter apparitions of their recently deceased father in the landscape. Intended to place emerging queer ideas of stewardship in conversation with traditional agricultural practices, the film shows the eternal tensions that result from environmentally-focused cinematic production. Through employing a meditative pacing and sweeping shots of landscape, Steward asks viewers to engage directly with imagery and duration.
